Shelter and Family Homes

We believe in sheltering children and teenagers and in the possibility of giving them a future

Casa do Menor has over 14 reception structures, structured as foster homes for children and young people from 0 to 18 years. Present in three Brazilian states in which the organization operates (Rio de Janeiro, Alagoas and Ceará), these houses are divided by age group, gender, and based on the profile of children and teens who are welcomed.

There are houses for children from 0 to 6 years old in which children receive first aid and first love: There are currently several newborns welcomed into our homes.

The second age range is from 6 to 12 years old, and the third range concerns teenagers, meaning all those children who are between 12 and 18 years old.

Within all homes, as in the other facilities of the Casa do Menor, the pedagogy of the “Presence” is applied: it consists in wanting to give these children the presence of a family which, for various reasons, they do not have. In every house there are social moms and dads, people who play a very important role as they become real “parents” who accompany the children in their everyday activities, becoming for them a point of reference.

Each house is followed by a social worker and a psychologist who help children for their entire stay in the foster home and who also follow, when possible, the family reintegration of the children. All children and young people have the opportunity to attend school, to participate in professional training courses and carry out sports activities in CIDAH artistic, cultural center of Miguel Couto.
